    My new veiled chameleons

Very cool. Starting to tempt me to consider a chameleon at some point.

    Question?

+1 to both. To save money, I'd recommend watching the classifieds here, there are occasionally members offering mantids for free if you cover shipping expenses. Just be sure to read the seller reviews before you send money to an individual.

    I.D. this sp. please

There are a *lot* of mantids in Ecuador, check out the number of listings for "Ecuador" here: http://insects.tamu.edu/research/collection/hallan/Arthropoda/Insects/Mantodea/Family/Mantidae.txt Here are steps on how to seach for text in your Windows-based browser, for those that are unaware and...

    Here's Looking at you.

*hugs* and warm tidings to you Phil, I'm sorry for this change and I hope the transition goes more smoothly than you expect. Perhaps you'll reconsider your plans to depart the board, as hobbies and friends (even virtual, text based ones) can be a blessing during tough times. I hope she does...

Zorak has a bum leg. :(

Sorry to hear of this. :( I wouldn't amputate, they're pretty good about doing that when needed. And on an unrelated note, I dig his colors. Are they more of a blue-green than your previous pics? Or maybe I'm confusing my mantids or just crazy... :stuart:

Pythons apparently wiping out Everglades mammals

Is the media often sensationalist? You betcha, and good on those who know it when they see it. But when refuting a point, you need to point out the inconsistencies, ideally with proof. Though the issue might be presented by the "sensationalist media", the thought of increased awareness...

    My new veiled chameleons

Nice shedding pics! I don't remember ever seeing a chameloen sheddding; I'm glad you shared 'em despite being from your phone. And yeah, those sleeping pics will evoke many d'awww moments. :)

    Wahlbergii.. why do that?

Hah. I've noticed this too with a few different species; I think there are two main reasons: 1) Some are just really territorial (especially adult females). They'll attack and shred nearly anything in their enclosure, even when they're well fed. 2) Some refuse to eat very much, especially...

    Hey Guys

Welcome! If you find any wild mantids in Malaysia, I'd be curious to see pics. :)

    Creobroter ID please

They both look like c. pictipennis to me. My adult female turned orange/brown after her final molt, very simialr to the shade of the top picture.

    Budwing gone fishin

This topic (mantids consuming goldfish) isn't new to the board, I recommend using the search function if you're curious to learn more. But if my memory serves, the act of an invertebrate consuming a vertebrate is/was controversial for some. Tread lightly with this, it would be unfortunate to...

    Oral guide to mantid binomials

Cool thread. ...yeah, I've got nothing to add other than my appreciation and that I think my pronunciations line up with what's been described thus far. :)

    crickets and gonglyus

What? How is your answer not "advice"? I've never read about infertile Violin ooths due to a cricket diet. Could you cite your source? And have you raised Violins on crickets as a primary diet? This is considerably different from Sporeworld's mention of using crickets as an occasional...

Lets see the face behind the username!

Nice picture! Looks like a fun time and makes me wanna pick a random weekend, grab a couple of flights and catch a show. Cheapest would prolly be Vegas, but that's also where we saw our last show (Ka). I liked the martial arts and fire theme and Ka's special effects were outstanding but I...
