    Haven't heard from odontomantis lately

Agreed, I wouldn't be surprised if they were out of US culture (though you'd be surprised at how many people have exotic mantids but are not active board members.) Hopefully someone is able to help bring 'em back soon!

    Brown chicken brown cow!

I also have O. gracilis ooths incubating. :) I'm glad to hear that more people in the US mantid community will be able to enjoy Oxys soon!

    Orchid Mantis Molting

Nice! Awesome photo op, well done. And grr at my usage of "she." That was sexist of me, I just saw pink and thought female. Didn't even think to look and count.

Wow! Awesome pics, thanks for sharing. Were you lifting the lid as she molted from it!?

way off topic on this one!

I'd try the board's media tags, not an iframe. thus in your case: I don't like how the board insists on formatting my code text... ><

Lets see the face behind the username!

Thanks bud. Some of my friends were giving me that ring advice years ago, during our first year together. :D lol We've been dating for about 8 years and are having an outdoor wedding in the mountains and river near our house this August.

how to hatch and feed Flies the easy way

Phil, I dig your posts. But they would be easier to read if you used the board's quote system when quoting someone (hope you don't mind my unsolicited opinion). If you want a hand with learning any details, shoot me a PM, I'd be happy to help. I'll also jump at the opportunity for a nice...

Nice pics kr1cket, that skydiving pic is one of the coolest I've seen! And I dig big dogs, they look like fun (we look forward to getting a dog someday).

Thanks Tammy. Looks are perishable but yeah, she is stunning (my closest buddies occasionally tease that I'm out of my league.) I feel very fortunate to be marrying my best friend.

    Water for fruit fly media?

Tap water conditions vary greatly, I suspect some (maybe even most) tap water is perfectly fine for ff cultures but YMMV. Personally, I use distilled water for all of my mantid activity - misting, cultures, etc. I suspect it might be unnecessary but I don't want hard water stains on my...

    Some pics from today

Nice pictures, thanks for sharing! Has your male oxy started flying around yet? Mine was a surprisingly adept; I was impressed by both his speed and mid-air acrobatics. :)

Lets see the face behind the username!

Alas, no, she has thus far laid a single big, beautiful, and unfertilized ooth. If anyone in the US had success with breeding this species, I'd like to know. Otherwise I sadly expect it to fall out of US culture.

Here's a recent shot of me with my lovely fiance: Meet Zula, my calm, sweet, and ever-hungry H. parviceps. And lastly, a baby-faced pic at the Washington coast:

Sounds like a blast! I've been to several Cirque shows over the years, always a fun date night.

    rough final molt

:( The passing of a mantis always makes me sad, especially when it's an adult. But you've recently lost your father?! Ugh, I'm so sorry. Condolences, prayers and warm tidings to you and yours during this difficult period.

Slowing the growth of a male Orchid Mantis

From the article linked above: I've not raised Orchids, so I can't comment on the fertility mentions (I'm skeptical on the infertile claim) but I would agree the above sounds like "the best way." In an ideal scenario, we would mimick nature and mature males and females would be available...
