    Crossing The Bridge

Hello all. I haven’t posted about Chili in a while, but last night, she seemed so weak. She wouldn’t eat the bluebottles we gave her. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge this morning. I miss her so much. I don’t think I’ll get another mantis for a while, which means I won’t be posting. Thanks for all...

    HELP!!!!!!!!

Things are looking up! This morning we went out and caught her a couple of bluebottles. She seems fine and we can give her lightly swatted flies until the pet store gets crickets again.

    HELP!!!!!!!!

This is an emergency! I need a reply quick! We just got back from vacation and I discovered that Chili hasn't eaten in SIX DAYS! (She molted though and is now an adult yay!) We'll be able to catch her some flies tomorrow, but not until then! Will she make it? And if not, then what can I do? She...

Does anyone else's mantis do this?

Ya know, sometimes mantises can be pretty dumb, or mine is just special. Earlier today Chili was stalking a cricket and accidentally snatched up a pebble while her prey watched from the other end of the viv.

    Canadian Fruit Flies

The best thing to do is just let the nymphs eat each other. That way you can keep the strongest nymphs and they'll be well fed til you have access to bigger food.

How long can my girl go without food?

I do not trust fly pupae. I had a bad experience with them before with a previous mantis. Basically what happened, is the fly pupae started wriggling and the previous mantis ate it, cocoon and all. Let's just say it didn't end well... for the fly AND the mantis.

    Cricket feeding experiments

Out of the 8 mantises I've had over the past few years, 5 of them have been fed on crickets and survived to adulthood. Really, I don't see the problem with feeding crickets to mantises as long as the crickets are well cared for.

How long can my girl go without food?

Okay! So I'm going abroad from December 31 to January 7. I won't be able to feed Chili from that time and most of my friends are entomophobic and can't give Chili her prey insects. What can I do to ensure that she stays fed?

    We Say Hello

Hi! I'd like to introduce myself and my Giant Asian Mantis, Chili!  First off, Chili is such a sweetie. (At least if you're not a cricket.) She adores climbing on my hands and doesn't seem to care about anything else as long as I'm holding her. As of now she is maybe an L5, her wing buds are...
