I spent five hours with friends on a field trip looking for mantids, beetles, plants and moss specimens. A sunburn and 200 mosquitoes bites later, all I found were these lousy snails and their eggs everywhere... and possibly Dengue fever. 😕
One of my neighbors in NE Florida sent me a pic of this dead specimen she found on her property. She's seen more in her bushes. I'm certain it's not a Heterochaeta orientalis... any ideas? It's approximately 2-3 inches. The picture quality may not be clear enough to be useful.
One of my beetle tanks is infested with these things. They can't fly or climb smooth surfaces, and drown when misted... which has been my strategy so far. I really don't want to break down this enclosure. Has anyone else encountered these pests? 😕
These are the best images I can get because...
Got really bored today and decided to talk to AI about mantids. 😂 She mentions the forum.

Wanna talk about mantids? :)
Absolutely, mantids are fascinating creatures! They belong to the family Mantidae and are known for their unique hunting style and “praying” stance. There are about 2,000...
I can across this article about insect brains and their complexity. Worth a read if you're interested.

Does anyone have recommendations for beetles with long lifespans? I'm keeping blue death feigning beetles at the moment and was hoping to find other beetle species with long lifespans... preferably desert species, but not limited.
Thanks!
This is kind of graphic, so if have a queasy stomach you may not want to watch. I don't advise doing this without extensive research. I just found it interesting.
I recently mated a H. orientalis and she laid an ooth today. I can't confirm the mating was successful... I was in the hospital when mating occurred but it was witnessed. Any suggestions how long should I wait before attempting to mate her again?
Thanks!
