Desperately seeking a male H. membranacea

My adult female H. membranacea is a beauty, and I'm really hoping to breed her. But, her suitor-to-be didn't survive his last molt and now she's without a boyfriend.  Does anyone have, or know where I can get, a male H. membranacea?  I am open to any arrangement, and also have phasmids and ant...

Wanted: Adult or subadult M Tenodera sinensis

Hi all - My son and I have enjoyed raising our Chinese mantis to adulthood, but now she needs a boyfriend badly. I know that the chinese aren't really traded/valued/sold much, but if anyone can help us out it would be much appreciated. I am trying to go through the whole life cycle with the...

    Learning to sex mantises

Hi all -  I'm trying to sex my mantises and it's not as easy as I thought. It's actually tough to get a decent pic, which doesn't help matters!  I count 6 pretty clear segments, but then I'm not sure if there is a smaller one/s at either end!  Anyone care to chime in?  thanks!

    L3s just not eating much!

Hi all - My chinese mantises are about 5 weeks old now. They seem to be healthy, but to me they look just a little thin. I have a hydei culture going and I put 2 or 3 in with them whenever I see that there's nothing in there for them to eat. I have seen them actually eat one maybe every 3 or 4...

Culture producing way more flies than I need!

I've moved up to the hydei flies for my 2 week old mantises, and they seem to be doing great.  But the culture is producing 25 times as many flies as the 10 mantises can possibly eat. I think I remember reading that if there are too many flies in the culture it will mess things up. Should I...

Ooth hatching - fruit flies aren't ready! What to do?

Hi all - It's exciting seeing my chinese ooth hatching, but I don't have anything to feed these little guys! I have a fruit fly culture starting, and the 32oz cup is covered in an impressive amount of tiny coccoons. So, I  expect a bunch of flies to hatch soon. But, it's only been about 5 days...

controlling humidity in a 32oz cup

Hi all - I have a chinese mantis ooth in a 32oz cup, with some coco fiber at the bottom of a 32 oz deli cup. The lid has ventilation holes, no fabric. Seems a common setup, but I can't seem to control the humidity. I have a little wireless humidity sensor in there and with the lid on it rises to...

Some super-novice questions about hatching a tenodera sinensis ooth

About 25 years ago, I had an ooth which I hatched out, let all the nymphs go except 1, and fed that one bugs we found around the yard and house. It grew up and was magnificent! Now I want to try again,  and hopefully to do ghosts and orchids. But, I have a tenodera sinensis coming and will start...

    Denver here!

Hi all - I'm here in Denver, CO, getting ready to start up a new mantis terrarium for the first time in over 20 years. A long, long time ago I got an ooth from a friend and hatched it out, kept a fantastic specimen to adulthood and really enjoyed.  Now, I'm thinking to try it again but this...
