    Problems with cricks

I've been having trouble with crickets lately. Within 1-2 weeks, at least 1/4 of them die on me. I find their little bodies dried and shrivelled up. What is causing this? Must be some of the conditions I'm keeping them in, but I can't figure anything out. They are kept at 76-82 degrees, while...

    Killing flys with cold

I find my flies nearly invincible and even if I forget them in the fridge overnight, they are still alive the next day. I have one of those little fridges where I can crank the temp up and down, and even near the freezer temperature they seem to always come out all right. Mine are also darn hard...

    Lots of mantids for sale

Yeah. But after you said he was old, I figured she wouldn't make it in time anyway since she needed another good 4 weeks to mature after. I slowed her down because someone else had a subsubadult male. Unfortunately he dropped dead with the other person, so she still had no chance with a mate...

    Bad hatching

It could be a mixture of both, you never know with breeding in this hobby. All 3 ooths were kept in the same condition?

    Lots of mantids for sale

I have too many mantids to deal with now. I'm selling off a bunch so I can manage them better. Here is the current list. Acromantis nymphs, L2-3 Oxypilus distinctus, L4-subadult, pairs or singles Parasphendale agrionina males, L4-5 P. ocellata, L4+ pairs or singles T. aridifolia sinensis...

    Sybilla Pretiosa mating

Luke seems to have many surprise species, I forgot he had the "Black-arm boxers" as well, and he recently obtained Popa. What other surprises do you have in store Luke? :P

    how much?

Uh, more like $30. That was about how much Yen would sell for and how much I would as well. $100 is way too expensive/overpriced for P. wahlbergii.

    gambian mantids not mating properly

 I've never seen anything like it. They look like organs. I don't think you'll get a hatch from that, but keep us updated if anything happens with them. Hopefully your female will start laying ooths correctly.

    Creating fly farm from scratch

I'm assuming you are talking about fruit flies since you are talking about oothecae. I buy fruit flies online at buyfruitflies.com. Depending on the size of the mantis nymph prior to hatching, I get either melanogaster or hydei, the latter being a larger type of fruit fly. They come with their...

    My inverts

It's actually a year, but it's still a short lifespan compared to a scorpion, haha. Do you breed scorpions yourself?

    MAGGOTS AND FRUITS FLIES

Maggots are not the ideal thing to feed mantids... especially if they've been eating a carcass... why don't you just order some fruit flies online?

    gambian mantids not mating properly

Actually, they don't survive because they dry up without the foam keeping the moisture inside.

    Popa spurca crassa mating

And the ooths are still able to hatch? What a hardy species!

    gambian mantids not mating properly

No, they are most likely fertile. My females always lay oothecae a day after being mated. Also, if your female is infertile, she usually only lays 1 ooth during her lifetime, not several. Pics would help a lot. Sounds like the mating should've been successful though.

    How long between moults?

What instar are they at now?
  18. Mantida

    Male ghost molted.

The female and male of this species are usually about the same length, the female is just wider. Spawn, your index finger must be really long, or your male must be really small.

    Popa spurca crassa mating

Oh wow!! I am very jealous, Luke. :P Congrats!
  20. Mantida

Here are pics of his behavior

Yeah - he's pretty crippled all right. He's an adult, so he won't molt anymore. Unless you want to hand feed or help him get food, he most likely won't be able to catch prey himself.
