    Fruitflies too small for orchid?

One of my orchids molted (yesterday) and if I had to guess I'd say it's roughly the size of a quarter. When a fruitfly comes near it poses up and stares at it but doesn't attack. Are fruitflies too small now, or is it just not hungry because it molted...?

How long can they go without food???

It's been about a half of a week without food because my culture died and the pet stores here are WORTHLESS. I'm ordering some off the internet, is there enough time???

    Orchid nymph--molting?

I have an orchid nymph that isn't eating (apparently), mostly sits on top of its cage doing nothing-- and keeps a leg or both legs "up" (up to the mantis, down back to earth for us) and just sits there. Is this a normal sign of molting? Unfortunately, two siblings I received with it came...

How do you tell if an ooth is hatched?

I got some ooths but this being my first time I'm unsure if they're hatched or not, as two of them appear to be hatched (there seems to be some small hole/tunnel things in the bottom that aren't in one of them); I suspect two are already hatched ooths and one is unhatched as it does not have the...

    Fruit flies get everywhere. Suggestions?

Just opening the container a bunch tend to crawl and fall out. I was wondering if there's a way to slow them down, like does putting them in the fridge for a few minutes slow down their movements? Also, if some escape... how easily do they survive on their own? They're wingless but I'm not...

    Nymph not eating?

Well, I got two nymphs; I ordered 1 budwing from mantisplace and got 2, unfortunately one already died apparently due to a mis-molt (seemed to have came out pretty screwed up after molting) and thus I have one left. I'm pretty sure it was my fault--I probably jostled them around too much or...

    Hello

I'm a 20-year-old college student in Nebraska. I've always enjoyed finding wild mantids as they are obviously a rather unique insect given the manner they hunt. I'm going to start raising mantids--I don't have any yet, but I've been meaning to do so for a long time and after finally moving out...

    Mantis died from bizarre... parasite???

Ok, this happened years ago, so I'm going off memory. I've been utterly curious what happened to this mantis ever since, since I've never seen this sort of thing in any insect before. Years ago, back when I was in middle school, we kept praying mantids in an aquarium; I believe they were...
