Are carrots toxic to Mantises and if so, why?

So lately I have been told from a few sources that feeding crickets that have carrots in their guts will kill your mantis. Every time, it is just a parroting of something they read online without any credible sources and had no idea why they were toxic. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

    WTB Mature Mae Bark Mantis

I was so close, I had a pair of Bark Mantises which had matured 3-4 weeks before. I had introduced them twice before and they had shown no interest in each other. Both were eating. Yesterday I found the male hanging from the to of the cage by one foot, dead. Argh!! I am still very excited...

    Phil's Phamous Entomological Explanations

This sounds like an awesome idea. I , for one, tend to be better able to learn all of the idiosyncratic little "what to do"s of specific exotic creature keeping if I can learn the "why"s along with them. I'll better understand and remember things like E. pennata faring poorly on a cricket diet...

    Pseudocreobotra wahlbergii

My name is Jayzun Boget and I work at a pet store in Lansing, MI. We have, over the last year, grown out our tarantula selection by at least triple. We would like to offer interesting mantises as well, but they are hard to find wholesale and with enough to order to spread out the shipping...

    Bad Final Molt

I'm glad to hear about your mantis, kamakiri. Unfortunately, things are a bit more grim for my wide arm mantis, I think. This is the "adult" molt where she got her wings, and as far as I know, her last molt. She can not hold herself upright. She just lays on her back and flops around when...

    Bad Final Molt

I caught a Wide Armed Mantis in the process of molting at the pet store i work at in Lansing, Michigan, Preuss Pets. It had been kept in a 32 oz. insect cup and fit decently pre-molt. At the point I saw her she was already nearly completely out of the exuvium and had grown nearly 300% ...

Will the real Devils Flower Mantis please stand up?

Anyone particularly familiar with this species? I got in 3 nymphs referred to as Devils Flower Mantis to the pet store that I work at. I was expecting Idolomantis diabolica, but I am also seeing Blepharopsis mendica referred to as the Devils Flower Mantis. I am going to contact my source, but...
