Ordered two ghost mantis ooths that were sent on Thursday and arrived on Tuesday. Swift sending and very well packed. Everything went very well, so I give him my recommendations. edit: One ootheca just started hatching!

I've actually experimented a bit and made up something that has worked quite well with Melanogaster. Insofar I've had no trouble with mold, but I've only made less than ten batches of the stuff. Does not smell too bad either. My own concoction: - fresh apple or banana mashed up - some potato...

Ah, sorry for the late reply... been away for a while now. She lasted for only about a week. The lost limb must have quickened the process considerably, though.

^ Hopefully she will take the moth. Big wings and a lot of fluttering seems to attract attention from all Idolos in the same terrarium. Unfortunately the female passed away. She did not take anything alive and slowly stopped eating altogether. I guess the damage was just a bit too much this...

An L7 idolo female of mine also seems to be in trouble. She has lost her other predatory arm, most likely in a fight for a moth, and is not eating any flies or moths even when offered. I've been able to feed her some honey and bee pollen mixture by dipping a stick on the goo and presenting it...

That's the way to grow your mantids! So nice to see an orchid mantis with real live orchids.

Aye, if there is doubt about the ootheca, it might be best to come to some sort of conclusion. If someone proficient could take a look at it, or maybe do some testing, the results should be well worth the trouble.

Well, some people think that there are polar bears in Finland, so who am I to say otherwise? :P Wouldn't have hunted those regardless, but it is always good to know that there are options available.

Oh, it's excellent! Guess I won't have to go hunting for polar bears come winter, should my Idolos grow into adults.

Looking for a captive bred Phyllocrania paradoxa ootheca or maybe two. I live in Europe, in case someone wonders about that.

Do you get fly larvae from fishing stores? Those buggers are quite popular as fishing bait and it is easy enough to grow flies out of them.

Does this work with bluebottles too? I don't know if those are available here locally, so I'd like to try raising a few batches before winter sets.
