    Hyla squirella

Actually, I am thinking about getting rid of mine - LOL Mine dont call that often now, its usually at 1-5am and in the spring/summer. I dont think they are louder than green trees, but its been years since I've kept those. I cant verify the species necessarily, mine are incredibly variable...

    Hyla squirella

I keep something like 10 of these, and they do well set up in a vertical 10 gallon tank with a large snake plant, and coco fiber substrate. You'll need to mist the tank HEAVILY at night to get them fully active and awake, and they do take large fruit flies, but lose interest quickly. You'll want...

    fly culture, make or buy?

Its called Drosophilia melanogastor and you wont need them, nor will you need them to fly.

    Ants infestation....

I had some sort of very small, non descript ant species get into my nymphs once and kill them, take them apart and remove them piece by piece through the mesh I had on top of the cups. Its not impossible that they were removing already dead nymphs, but seems unlikely given the number of them...

    Pygmy chameleons

Usually no more than 3-4 weeks, however, if they are only somewhat stressed, 6 mos or so. They are easier than a Yemen in some respects, but all Yemens are captive bred, and CB pygmies are hard to find.

    Pygmy chameleons

As I said, "Yemen" chameleons can live for years in poor conditions, they are not typical of true chameleons in that respect. They also are very easy to breed, which is why there are so many of them...

    Winter shipping

Alan, You can use heat packs for shipping in cold climates. They are available from a number of retailers and range in duration from about 6- 60 hours of heat. You are most likely to find these from a reptile shipping supplier, or someplace with skiing supplies.

    Pygmy chameleons

Its not true in that the act of picking it up will kill it immediately.. its that chameleons are extremely sensitive to stress, and picking them up stresses them. Stress kills them, so in a sense, holding them, can kill them. Their requirements are hard to meet, but mostly, they are different...

    Yemen laying :)

With fertile eggs from a well cared for, healthy female, you can expect nearly 100% to hatch.

    check out these beauties...

I've just got around to reading this thread, and I am appalled. Healthy "debate" is encouraged here, but flatly negating someone's field of expertise, will NOT be tolerated. How many entomologists do you see in a typical forum? How often do you have the opportunity to actually TALK to people...

    Pygmy chameleons

No, a chameleon is one of the hardest animals in captivity to keep, period. Mantids are cake in comparison, even the more difficult species. "Yemen"/Veiled chameleons are the species that takes the longest abuse - they will last years in poor conditions, but VERY few people can keep them alive...

    Anyone interested in 'Cryptozoology'?

If you've never seen this, you are missing out. It is AMAZING. The sheer numbers of dinoflaggelates in the given area is mind boggling when you see how bright the glow is.

What Mantids to get? (new user)

    Honey has anti-fungal properties.

    Pygmy chameleons

A LOT harder than mantids, and a heck of a lot more expensive. That is one of the worse sites I have ever seen for any animal, let alone a chameleon. You need to keep in mind who writes these things, and WHY. If you are trying to sell a bunch, you are going to tell people they are really easy to...

    Deremensis Problem

Ian, CCIC is really a better place for this kind of thing ;) However, usually excessive saliva is due to dehydration and infection. Particularly if he has had a recent infection, I would be willing to bet he has some remnant infection still. If you can take him to a vet for a mouth culture...

    Forum Topics

I'll see what can be done about making a forum or sticky to put caresheets in, however, I can tell you from experience this will not eliminate repetitive questions, and probably will not decrease them much. I dont want to log in tomorrow and have 439 PM's either, so if one of you wants to start...

    Paradoxa in Madagascar?

Yes, I think it was photos.madagascar. something or another. They were just normal paradoxa and while I think they could have been introduced, I want to know if they are endemic to the island, which as I said before, I highly doubt.

    Paradoxa in Madagascar?

Stumbled upon some photos of Madagascar and its inhabitants, one of them labeled as "brown mantis" and clearly a P. paradoxa. I wasnt aware they were found in Madagascar - everything I have seen indicated "Southern Arfica" (which Madagascar technically is, but is not usually included with...
