    Nasty Spider

Those guys (wolf spiders) are notorious for showing up in houses in new housing developments..... especially in Florida.... Probably because their natural habitats are ripped up, but several people I know, including my parents had wolf spiders in their new houses for like 5 years before they...

    mantis that wont molt

Well all the others that I had kept are doing fine on the heat and humidity and food they were getting....I kept 12 from an ooth and now have 7. The one that wasn't molting eventually died like everyone else with the same problem said. Of the others I had 1 escapee, and 3 bad molts..

    mantis that wont molt

It has been treated the same as all of the other 12 I have kept... same temp, heat, frequency of feeding, and misting????

    mantis that wont molt

I had three Chinese Mantis ooths hatch, and released a whole bunch into my gardens. I kept like 12 to raise, and plan to release all but 4 to breed.... They have probably molted 5 or so times and are considerably big... yet I have one that NEVER molted and is just as small as when s/he...

    wormwood

AHAHHAHA Gee guys sorry! I don't have any absinthe! I just have dried out wormwood leaf that I bought from an herb store that I keep near my mealworm bins to keep away grain mites... That seems to work... and have read that it can be grown or sprinkled in your garden to deter aphids and such...

As a pest deterrent in the garden, do you think wormwood would harm mantids?

well my parth clone lady is still around after two molts, but still ever so tiny... I took great pains to get these pictures to focus!

    Grass Mantis growth

It looks like she has been through two molts, but is still smaller than an L1 Chinese nymph.....Is that normal, or maybe because she is parthanogenic?

    Grass Mantis growth

So nobody knows at the rate that grass mantid nymphs grow? Hibiscus? Have you ever raised these or a similar sized species?

    parth agrss mantid

    parth agrss mantid

Okay. So I have like 6 little ooths that my grass mantid lady made.. Out of all of those I only have 1 nymph that has been alive for several weeks now. I keep giving her hibiscus buds with whiteflies and aphids on them, but she hasn't molted or grown at all.. Though she seems to keep...

    Darkling Beetle Issue

Yes and the flailing I can relate to, but they stopped overnight, so I'm not sure! I would bet anything it was that grape I added. It was not organic, and I didn't wash it. Since then I've added organic carrot, spinach, and orange and they are devouring it with no seizures! It pays to treat your...

    Food 101 please

Are paper wasps okay if you pull out the stinger? How in the world did you "catch" them? As of now I regularly have crickets, mealworms of all stages, waxworms and wax moths, earthworms, and the smaller hydei/melanogaster flies... I think they are about to get to be too small for the flies...

    Food 101 please

Im sure this has been talked about over and over again, but what is the general consenusus of what to feed grown chinese and larger mantids? Crickets? Mealworms? Bluebottles? Do bluebottles get out and have wings? Someone give me the basics...

    Darkling Beetle Issue

Are you keeping them to keep your mealworm colony going? I have had darkling beetles die for seemingly no reason on their back with their arms flailing.... I have only fed carrot or potato though.... I dont know but I had a HUGE grain mite problem, so now I dont try to reproduce them anymore...
