    Ghozt

Cares about his mantid and educated on the subject as well... Easy to deal with and honest! Btw... Apologies for the late feedback- the "holidays" came up and I've had to entertain a pile of out of town guests and have been busy- finally had some down time to come on here and leave some feedback

    Ootheca Pictures

http://mantisonline.de/index.php?lan=en&show=ooths&content=a:2:{s:7:%22subshow%22%3Bs:15:%22species_mantids%22%3Bs:10:%22level_left%22%3Bs:3:%22all%22%3B} I found a site that seems to have a good encyclopedia of oothecae images... Could be a good reference point for identifying ooths.

    Praying Mantids Keeping Aliens

I paid about $15.00 for this book and was dissappointed. It is nice book to look through and has a few nice pictures and some nice fairly common info, but I found that there was a distinct lack of good data. Plenty of information that most hobbyists (esp. breeders) would already know. I'm not...

    wer r dey ?

You're from Vegas too I see... I know I saw some mantid sellers on Craigslist around here a long time ago- unfortunately I think CL changed their policy and wont allow sales of live animals on their site now or something like that. What kind of a collection are you running?

    Site down? Blocked addess?

Was this site down for a bit? I haven't been able to get on. I get the impression that my address is blocked. I had to do a trick to get this to come up so I could post here. Does anybody know who I could contact as to why I cannot seem to access this forum without implementing a technique to do...

    Drilling holes in critter keepers

I actually just did that just recently. Bought some foam from Jo Ann Fabrics and then I used my router to drill into the side of the container and then stoppered it up with the foam. Then I just used, I believe it was creoline cloth, to cover the top of the tank so that the little guys would...

    D. Melanogaster Screen Type

The 18 x 18 mesh (1mm opening) is significantly smaller than standard windows screen and should hold them even with varying sizes. On the plus side they come out as adult fruit flies from maggots so there wont be as much variance in size as there would be if they did not have a metamorphic...

    Ooth temp to delay hatching

As a general rule, would putting oothecae in the freezer prevent hatching without destroying the content? I currently do not have them in the freezer- just asking in advance. I'm not sure what temp would be required to cause the ooth to not hatch until I'm ready for them to do so (I would be...

Where can I get screen/mesh able to contain fruitflies?

Also, on the issue of mold in the melanogaster culture... You are looking for tegosept (methylparaben) or calcium propionate which would be mold inhibitors that you can add into the substrate mix. A very small amount goes a long way.

Where can I get screen/mesh able to contain fruitflies?

Funny, I was just looking into this same problem today. From what I have gathered, what you are looking for is a 18 mesh screen... i have the info in my post here: http://mantidforum.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=19709&st=0&p=145462&fromsearch=1entry145462 As for where to get it...

    D. Melanogaster Screen Type

OK. So I've looked around a wikipedia'd some info as well. According to wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D._melanogaster The D. melanogaster grows to be approximately 2.5 mm for females and bit less for males. In as far as mesh goes here is a wiki entry for mesh scale...

    D. Melanogaster Screen Type

I've looked everywhere and I'm finding a lot of general information regarding this (what product people like, what they think is a good place to get product, etc...). I'm looking to purchase a screen for the D. Melanogaster flies I'm going to be culturing- however I'm not sure which mesh rating...

    Wanted: Orchid Ootheca

I have been looking around for some time for Hymenopus coronatus ootheca or mateable pairs. If anybody has this available I would be willing to pay. I am more interested in the ooth than the pair but either will do as there would be nothing wrong with having a good pair around the house either...

    Hello

I've had a long time interest in mantid. It wasn't until I moved to Las Vegas that I actually was able to encounter them in person (as opposed to textbooks and the like) and my interest in them has been burgeoning since. I have taken care of several over the past couple of years and are now...
