Idolo girls gettin a little outside time

Yeah they like them cuz they help keep moth and fly population down in the house. I usually have one of the Idolos hanging out on an umbrella plant in my room, and a few 3-4 foot sticks for them to climb on when I have them out. They can take the Idolomantis, put it on a long stick and hold...

Idolo girls gettin a little outside time

Some more pics I took with my little poopy HP point and shooter, when our apple tree was bloomin. But i like them cuz they show how well they can camouflage. See if ya'll can find them. low quality camera help them hide but they still stand out once you find them. Also thru in a few extra...

Idolo girls gettin a little outside time

Had some nice sunny cool days this spring, so I took the girls out for some pics . I am bored now, and figured it would be fun to share some pics. These are taken with my roommate's Nikon d7000. Hope ya'll enjoy.

    largest commonly available sp.

Yeah I'll admit the pics aren't perfect, sorry... If the Idolo is looking straight forward, keeping her head perpendicular to her body, then the 2 are about the same length, head to bum, give or take a few mm. But the Idolos appear much larger and bulkier, regardless... imo. The 2nd female...

    largest commonly available sp.

The upcoming girl idolo should be alot bigger too. Even as a sub her shield is larger then the adults. But between the 2 on my hand the idolo is about 1/4 in longer. H. Mem is much heavier but she is about to lay her 5th ooth. And the the idolo is still getting her color... but being 10 days...

    largest commonly available sp.

I have breed them... starting with only one pair at l4 and l5. Female did pass from getting eggbound or something midway thru laying her second ooth. I don't think I cared for the one good ooth properly and only had 3 hatch. One was eaten at l2. I still have the other two, both girls... but...

    Mantis Caresheet Section?

I can dig the idea of a caresheet section but like others said it is alot of work and there are plenty of other sources for caresheets on the interwebs. Random thought, but I think if there even was to be a new section like this, I would maybe suggest doing a section that is filled with threads...

    T. sinensis Day 2: A reason for the infamous die off?

Oh and also if you see in the pics I used scotch tape to hold up the ooths... I dont know what I was thinking when I did that. That probably accounted for as many deaths as cannibalism.

    T. sinensis Day 2: A reason for the infamous die off?

Been raising t. sinensis off and on since i was in the 2nd grade and last year hatched 20 ooths indoors with plans to release most of them outdoors. It was alot of work and sadly most died after I released them on the 2nd week of May, and we had a crazy cold front brought three days for...

    Housing hole creation

I have been just sticking a small round item to the lids with a glue gun. I my case I use a carmex lip balm container. Then I just carefully cut around the container with the exacto and usually get a symmetrical mess free hole. If I had the drill and bits, I would go that route.

    Subadult Club!!!

Well true but being swollen I don't think would account for the "pointedness". And her overall size just seems small. Maybe that is just because of the pics, but I dunno. I am probably wrong, but my persistence to argue makes me have to look for more pics...

    Subadult Club!!!

Yeah I know this may be a bit late but I agree with gripen about the orchid not looking like a sub. I haven't kept orchids, but for what I have seen from other pictures she looks kinda small. And the lower wingbuds are not as pointed looking as I would think they should...

    They HATCHED! Acanthops nymphs!!

Very cool, they almost look like a bunch of little demons bunched together. They are bigger then I would expect for freshly hatched. Congrats

    Parablepharis kuhlii

Yeah I have been really wanting theses guys since I saw them on the Uk forums. Someone offered ooths from them(I think leviathan, but i don't remember forsure) in the classified section here some months ago. Really kicking myself for not going after them. Have never really heard much on their...

    Reasons for ornamental dimorphism?

Patrick you seem irritated man. I mean isn't this a forum for a asking questions? You make it sound like he had no right asking that. And I mean come on, he made the the question pretty clear that it was about other physical differences. I agree that sexual dimorphism also pertain to the...

    Golden Ghost

Yeah she looks like she spent a little to much time under the basking lamps. Trying to be the tannest girl on the block. Agent, If you really need an adult male I can probably send you one. I do only have 3 tho. And thanks ya'll for checking her out.

    Golden Ghost

This girl molted 3 days ago and looks like she is gonna hold this golden orange color. I thought it was pretty cool so I had to take some pics and show her off. I still don't have the greatest camera but I think you can get the idea. I hope ya'll enjoy.
