    Found on Patio

A mantis I found on my patio, I think it's stagmomantis californica (california mantis), and a female due to counting 5-6 segments, no clue about what instar, but it seems to be about an inch in length.

    ooth laid

Well, the stick is part of the enclosure, I can't simply pop them off safely with my hand?

    Mini vivarium?

I have thought about incorporating a live plant into my containers, let us know if you run into any problems

    ooth laid

Ok, guess I will put the ooths in the fridge then, how should I remove them from the stick? Do I mist them while they're in the fridge? How long should they be in the fridge for? Do they need to hang upside down while in the fridge? I think it may be a brown colored European mantis

    ooth laid

Why would I put it in the fridge? And as far as species I think it is either Carolina or California mantis. I prolly had her for about two weeks when she laid the ooth, so no babies inside it?

    Some ghost mantis questions

My ghost just sits and waits for prey. Had it 4 months or so and is only as far as l3 at the most.

    ooth laid

Second ooth laid! How long do I have to wait to hatch them? Can I put them in a warm room to do it?

    Mini vivarium?

Yeah, ghosts are very communal, but a gallon container may be too big. The ghosts do not actively hunt their prey, they just hang out and wait for the prey to walk by, so if you use a big container make sure you give them something that will easily cross their path. A lot of my ghosts died from...

Found some cute inverts at work today

Nice, I find a lot of mantises at my apt, we also have a ton of spiders, which is I think why I find so many mantises. The spiders eat the majority of the food so the mantises have to venture further to find food, right?

    Mini vivarium?

Would love to see the finished product

    Some ghost mantis questions

I've read that proper care for a ghost can give it a lifespan up to two years. If your room is kept cool it slows the aging process down as well I think. My ghost is several months old and still only l2 or 3. It has a hard time with crickets unless they are super tiny. Also, you will want to...

    ooth laid

So it looked like she was pooping earlier tonight, little balls (it looked like, dont know how to describe them), coming out of the abdomen, is it poop? I hope she was fertile, would love more of her.

    ooth laid

I think she is a Carolina mantis, and I was wondering if they could lay ooths without being fertilized
