    a question about bluebottles

Hey, guys! We had a recent problem with our fridge and put most of our foods in my sister's fridge. Unfortunately, she is too stinkin squeamish about any of my feeders in her frige. I kept them on ice for as long as i could until we got the new fridge. But, they just began hatching like crazy...

Think my culture is culprit behind dying nymphs

So, I use to have all the supplies needed to start an extended culture of ffs. This time put in the sugar, instant potatoes but guess what...no yeast. Had no choice just let it go and they began to make maggots. When I fed the ffs from this culture (which had begun to mold and decompose so to...

getting ready to release my babies

After caring for them and all why are you going to release them anyways? The only time I released a Chinese back into the wild was when I caught one on a neighbor's window screen., it was really uncomfortable around us and even after two weeks did not demonstrate any signs of becoming use to...

    Flower Nymph Playing Dead

Yes indeed!! Gotta watch changes in temp especially dramatic increases or even decreases!!! I live in an apartment and i usually let my babies hangout on the screen on my windows. Well, last winter I left them on the window during the day and forgot that around 6pm the temp usually drops. I was...

    Keeping them CLEAN

When the floor of the enclosure is just about covered with droppings sometimes sooner. I just can't bear the thought of letting them just hang there with droppings building up to the point of a smelly enclosure!!!

    My little S. Limbatas

Hey guys received these little guys a few weeks ago and still no molt. She is clearly all fatty fat even before engorging herself with ffs and through one of my detached 50mm lenses I can see the new body pushing it's way through the little butt. So, I am wondering why she...they have not molted...

    They bleed RED?!

I have nursed many mantids, even helped them out of their skin with a needle, mister, and a magnifying glass!!! But i must say when they are hunched from drying out in that position I couldn't say. But...I would keep feeding him and see if the next molt could possible fix him. I really doubt it...

    Do you name your Mantis?

I usually let my boys name em. They usually name the ones which have yet to molt to a point where i can tell the sex, unisex names like Alex, Randi, Trace etc!Once they are identified then they go according to names the two of them agree on collectively.

Mantis just passed and I have no idea why

Well I have an even weirder one. I had a few Chinese and just the other day I found one just dead at the bottom of the tank (plenty of room for molts and more) but her head was totally discoloured as if she had been set on fire. The upper part of the thorax down to just above the abdomen also...
