    What species do I have?

Your D. tityus larvae need to eat decomposed hardwood like oak or maple. Look for rotting wood that crumbles easily in your hands. Make sure you don't bring in any centipedes with your wood. Cheers

Hercules Beetle, DYNASTES HERCULES ssp. HERCULES

Good to know. Thanks for the clarification. Yeah, I was kinda' wondering what Dhh beetles would be doing hibernating. Makes sense that the tropical species haven't evolved to activate the hibernation gene. My D. tityus beetles, on the other hand, DEFINITELY need to go through hibernation in...

Hercules Beetle, DYNASTES HERCULES ssp. HERCULES

Okay, I see, now. I misunderstood. Yup, hibernating. That's actually a good thing. It means they'll live longer than if they didn't get a chance to hibernate. In a couple of months, they'll be chowing down so much beetle jelly, you'll probably be wishing they were still hibernating! LOL...

Hercules Beetle, DYNASTES HERCULES ssp. HERCULES

Hmm... I don't know about D. hercules hercules, but it sounds like they are in hibernation mode. My D. tityus beetles are usually not interested in eating and just want to burrow down into the substrate for a couple of months after I pull them out of the hibernation cooler. Maybe that's...

    Look What I Found :)

Hmm... I'm not convinced it's Iris oratoria. If it is Iris oratoria, then why is there no red-orange spot on the ventral side on the fourth (second to last) abdominal segment? Here's the photo Dethcheez took of an adult last year: Also, an adult Miomantis caffra can range in size from 32...

    Look What I Found :)

Yup. Looks like a Miomantis caffra ootheca to me. Very interesting. It seems a colony has been established in your area...

My Idolo girl did it! She successfully molted to an adult.

:( Did the legs break off, or just bend? If they're bent, try getting her to hang upside down before she starts to harden.

Are Pseudoharpax virescens anywhere in the hobby?

I've read that the temp requirements for successful breeding is fairly high. What are your temps at?

    Millipede Identification please

Yes, it looks to be a Narceus americanus. When I was a kid, we used to find a lot of them in a bat cave near where I lived. Cheers

fell after molting!! please help help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, hanging upside down is the ticket to re-aligning the legs as they harden. Glad to hear she is doing better. Cheers

    Good Camera help

Hey, CosbyArt, on Amazon.com, I just saw this really nice 16-LED ring for macro photography: http://www.amazon.com/Polaroid-PL-MRL16-Digital-Olympus-Cameras/dp/B005FRI3IE I'm thinking about giving it a whirl, as I'm sure it beats my styrofoam cup I use to bounce the flash when doing macro...

Nice! We've got three versicolor slings that arrived in the mail last week. I can hardly wait for them to get bigger and brighter like yours. Cheers

    Dynastes tityus egg!

Yup, I try to keep them undisturbed as much as possible, too. I have a huge L3 D. tityus that, for the past couple of months, I've had to resist the temptation to go digging through his enclosure to check up on him. But, I figure he'll pop up when he's ready. Cheers

    Dynastes tityus egg!

Nice! Just wondering how the larvae are doing. I've got some eggs, larvae, and adult D. tityus and D. granti. So, if you need any help or have any questions on rearing them, feel free to ask. Cheers
