Heirodula in poor health after molt

He's ignored the 4-5 flies that have been living in his tank for a whole but the water's been pretty consistent. I haven't heard the idea of putting a headless fly to his mouth, but I'll definitely try that in the morning. Thanks for the help, i'll be sure browse a little harder.

Heirodula in poor health after molt

Its been maybe 2 days since the molt, but its been nearly a week since I've seen any appetite out of him. These are pretty poor pics, but he's hanging onto the door right now. The leg is still attached, but flops around.

Heirodula in poor health after molt

Hey guys, my Heirodula Xishiaensis (sp?) just molted to adult, but it seems to have taken a fall since i found its exoskeleton on the floor of the tank. For the first time he refused to eat before his molt, and now he seems to just completely ignore food in spite of his thinning abdomen. He also...

    Looking for recently dead mantids

I'd like to purchase any large (preferably adult female) dead mantids in decent condition for a preservation/pinning. The more unique, the better.

    What's wrong with my mantis?

I've ordered twice from Mantispets/Green Oasis, and both the house flies and the blue bottle flies seem to take an unusually long time, usually around a week or so, but at the very least 3 days to hatch. The blue bottles are the most inconsistent, I've been sticking them in a tupperware...

    What's wrong with my mantis?

I've been trying to feed my mantids a variety but the various fly pupae i'm ordering always seem to take forever to hatch, i think it's close to like 70-30 on waxworms to flies diet. Maybe I should just learn to make a culture or just keep heading out to the store or something. In addition, the...

    What's wrong with my mantis?

Sadly I think this ones dead. :( I've got another Heiro under the exact same conditions and it seems to be fairly healthy, though.

    What's wrong with my mantis?

One of my Hirodula hasn't been eating all that much, and i woke up today to find him passed out on the floor of his container. He'll move weakly and wake up a bit with a few sprays of water, but generally seems pretty lifeless. Is there any way to salvage this little guy? He's been living off...

I'm looking to purchase a large nymph as a pet. Looking at l2 or 3 Chinese Mantids/Giant Africans, but I'm interested in anything that isn't too difficult to take care of and will grow to be ~4" or larger as an adult. I live in Brooklyn, New York.

    Cleaning a tank?

Alright cool so I'll just use everything at the same time and I won't have much cleaning to do. and thanks for the offer Unicorn but I'll be too busy with work to be setting up a new terrarrium for a while. I'll message you if you're still overpopulated when I order my new mantids, though.

    Cleaning a tank?

So I've read that a 'clean-up crew' of pill bugs and springtails, and some moss will help take care of soil and feeder remains etc. Is it a good idea to use both, or will the clean up crew end up eating the moss anyway? With the exception of say, wiping off water stains and whatnot on the sides...

    Broken limbs and black mouth?

Thanks a lot for the input, guys. I'm glad to know it's likely her problems came naturally and not from improper care or anything like that. She's dead now but she was able to eat. And yeah the plastic roof has the rectangular grid in it. Monty's eyes always shifted between black to...

    Broken limbs and black mouth?

So I signed up for this site a while back to ask about my pet Monty's injuries and whatnot, but she passed away shortly after. A month before she died she broke her...mantis fingers (I think they're called Tarsi?), but I'm not sure how. One day I found one of the fingers stiff at a 90 degree...
