    DIY on my first enclosure!

I can't tell how fine the mesh is from the picture, but to be fruit fly proof the holes should be 0,5mm at most in my experience.

    DIY on my first enclosure!

Looks good. Sure, you'll have a few degrees variance like that but it shouldn't matter. Especially p. paradoxa can tolerate a very wide range of temperature.

    DIY on my first enclosure!

Oh, gotcha. As I said, I would just make a big hole and cover it with mesh.  You can just attach a lamp about 30cm from the surface on which you put the cups, then arrange the cups in a circle around the lamp so they each get the same amount of heat. For 25°C a 20-30W lamp should suffice and...

    DIY on my first enclosure!

On my 1L cups I always cut a square out of the lid and two windows on the sides near the bottom. I use a hot box cutter or a soldering iron. Then I glue on pieces of mesh with hot glue. The nymphs I keep in these cups usually only eat fruit flies so I tend to use a fine textile mesh. I'm not...

Is this an appropriate size for a small blatta lateralis colony?

The females lay ooths every couple of weeks and the eggs should hatch after another few weeks. In the beginning you might have to wait a while before the first offspring appears, but after that you should get a steady flow of new roaches. Reproduction has never been an issue for me with these...

Is this an appropriate size for a small blatta lateralis colony?

Yes, if you keep your colony small this should be sufficient space. Like most roaches they're very communal and like to huddle together, and the toilet paper rolls should provide enough hiding spots. Maybe put some sort of cotton or sponge in that water dish so the small ones can't drown in it...

My custom ghost mantis (Phyllocrania paradoxa) enclosure

That looks gorgeous. Real plants always make an enclosure look much more alive and natural. I'm sure the ghosts will enjoy it!  :D

    Hello from Germany

Hi everybody, my name is Tim and I'm from Germany. I study Forestry at the moment and like to keep all kinds of invertebrates. I lurked around the forum for some time but never decided to post until now. Since January this year I've also been keeping mantids. I started out with 5 ghosts, which...

    Rhombodera basalis has brown feet

Looking back at pictures her legs were already brown when she arrived. Also, the hind legs are much darker than the one in the photo, almost black.

    Rhombodera basalis has brown feet

Hi guys, I recently got a female Rhombodera basalis in L6. So far she's been doing well, eating heaps and active. But today I noticed that her feet are a brown color.  Now in most pictures I've seen of R. basalis the feet are green like the rest of the leg. Is this cause for concern? Should I...
