Hi everyone, I'm a college student from Southern California who's been fascinated with mantids for a long time now. I plan to have my first mantis pets sometime soon after a bit more research, so any beginner tips and advice, especially regarding communal species and housing is much appreciated and encouraged, but in the meantime, a happy hello to everyone! :D

Welcome. Browse the forums and try the search feature. You will be surprised at what info you can gather just from looking around here.

Hello from Ny and welcome, you will find everything you need here. I love Ghost mi first mantis :punk:

I like the Deroplatys Lobata right now. They are very sociable and quite interesting when they get bigger! Of course, Ghosts are nice too. But really, most mantis species are pretty easy to care for...what you want to look for are species that are not notorious for "dying off", "mysterious death syndrome" or mismolting. You can ask around to find out.

What folks usually do is find a species they like visually and learn about its care & pros & cons (finding someone on here that owns them & chatting with them is a good first step). Very few species are notoriously difficult.

Welcome!

Thanks so much for the warm welcome and tips everyone! So far, I've been checking out ghost mantids, but I'll look up into the Deroplatys Lobata species that GreenOasis recommnded as well. See you all around the forum! :D

Don't know any of these myself, all mantis are likely to have bad times every once in a while !
