I was thinking, it would be really nice if we could all collectively add input into planning a conference or other type of mantis/bug event here in the states where all of us can finally travel and meet. Name tags, our favouite and least favorite mantids, refreshments, after-event pub rental or party, and maybe even book up a local motel/hotel in the city of the event would all be part of the event. We could add a photography contest, sell various t-shirts designed by members, professionals or guest entomologists to speak and give advice and the rest is only limited to our imaginations!!!

Anyone?????

They have what they call Bugfest here at the Natural History Museum every year. Last year another member and I had a mantid booth. It was the first all mantis booth they ever had. We were not allowed to have any non U.S. mantids. It was a pretty good show and the booth was pretty popular.

have you looked into getting a license to import/export insects ? it appears it is a 100$ per year fee AND a 55$ per shipment fee for inspections .... i am considering looking deeper into it, but wanted to see if you looked into it already ?

Nah. I really have no desire in importing or exporting. When we were checking out this event they made sure we understood not to have anything "exotic" at our booth. We ended up with a pretty good showing of US mantids though. There were APHIS people and they did inspect our booth.
