Are maggots safe?

Are blue bottle fly maggots (or "spikes") safe to give to a mantis?

I ripped the head off of one and it smelled rather bad. Almost like decay. I was going to feed it to a mantis, but now I'm wondering if it is safe to do so.

I do have several pupae but they have yet to eclose.

They are fine to feed out, the smell is from what they eat. You are what you eat so they say.

Maggots are fine,they are right smelly aren't they lol I find the mantis has to be big enough to chew through them,but once it is,then no harm from what I've heard

They can even eat the pupae before they hatch, mantis dont care about the smell.

mantises sometimes dont like the taste of maggots but they r safe as food objects
