Hello! Quick question:

Are scented candles/wax warmers bad for mantids? I have one mantis in my room where I usually have a wax warmer going or I light a candle. Would this be harmful? I’ve seen mixed responses.

My jumping spiders are unaffected, but mantises are usually more sensitive than they are so I’m unsure and don’t want to take any risks.

Thank you for reading!

Well a lot of animals are far more sensitive to chemicals in the air than we are. Humans are surprisingly durable in that area! A candle warmer should be fine (I've never had any trouble) but I wouldn't use candles in the same room as a mantis.

Granted I've conked out with an essential oil diffuser in a closed room with a mantis (yay sleep deprivation) and he was still alive come morning. Really I just recommend against usage of anything emitting obvious chemicals or smoke in the air.
