One of my baby thistle's is throwing up what looks like blood all over the enclosure lid. I changed the lid and the new one is now covered also. By covered I mean several large spots covering about a 1/3 portion of the lid and each day there is more. Other than that it's eating and drinking fine. Doesn't seem stressed there is no black liquid or anything like that.

Should I worry? I got five nymphs in a few weeks ago and one died in molt the day after I got them. So I have four left.  Does anyone have some tidbits of wisdom?

  • size - L3
  • Temps - night low 75 F - day high 90 - 100 F
  • Humidity - 20% - 30%
  • Watered lightly once daily
  • Eating regularly on Fruit Flies every other day
  • Enclosure cleaned every three days
  • No mold or extra moisture
  • Plenty of ventilation
  • Fruit Fly cultures are clean
  • Not handled

Give it some watered down honey and pray. That's the best remedy.

If the liquid smells bad, so a honey treatment asap as it could be a bacterial infection known as black death. If it doesn't smell, it could be the result of too much food.

I just wish I knew what it died from so I can make sure it doesn't happen again. At least with the first one, I knew what the problem was :(

I will be ordering more at some point, gotta get this right!
