remember back in LGBT month I said I would make a post about breast cancer awareness month? well I am so take that society! :p

this month is breast cancer awareness month

I sit here typing this as I watch Ellen talk about breast cancer awareness

breast cancer is a cancer that affects many women over age 45 and can also affect men

yearly mammograms are recommended after age 30 though the disease can occur earlier and my grandmother had gotten metastatic breast cancer between mammograms (what poor luck huh?) and it didn't grow in a lump but in a line so it was harder to detect and it wound up killing her

so for any women on the forum, be sure to keep up with your health and get regular checkups to check for problems

also be sure to educate yourselves and do monthly exams to lower your risk of dying from the disease

My aunt passed away last year from breast cancer. She did self examinations, but when she actually found something she did nothing. By the time she decided something was wrong, it was too late. It had metastasized and spread throughout her body.

If you don't care about your body, know that somebody else does and be good to yourself. Go ahead...feel yourself up. Or, better yet, have someone do it for you.

Topic near and dear to my heart. My gram had it and I have lost several good friends to it as well as have several friends currently undergoing treatment. I am on the board if directors for an organization here in NH

There seems to now be a very valid link between breast cancer and melanomas, on top of breast cancer and melanoma being the only two types of cancers that can can metastasize anywhere in the body.

My friend just kicked some breast cancer ! She is only 31 and it was a very aggressive inflamatory stage 4 cancer. It was a horrible year for her but she is now cancer free :)
