Calling after ejecting a spermataphore?

So my female wallie laid an ooth today. And I was wondering why she was calling even though there was a spermataphore ejected. The ooth was formed normally, and i witnessed the connection so any ideas why?

I don't know if it is the case with mantids, but many animals practice polyandry which is thought to increase genetic diversity of the offspring and reproductive success of the female.

Okay. I was wondering, cause ejection of the spermataphore means the mating was successful. So fingers crossed this ooth hatches.

Where did you hear that? "Ejecting the spermatophore" is a phrase around here that probably isn't correct/accurate. If she was mated and the mating lasted for awhile I am sure her eggs are fertile.

Many of my mated wahlbergii females that were laying fertile ooths continued calling until they died.

I asked this too... the mantid bends her abdomen downward for a while. believe or not you will notice it when you see it. It is not a "natural" position.

Okay. the mating was about 12 ish hours, so they were connected for a while.
