We ordered 4 adult female T's and they came in today, express mail. They were all pretty cold and sluggish, but one the p. cambridgei (trinidad chevron) was in the death curl. She is barely moving. We have tried warming her up, giving her water it seems like weve done everything and now, eve 3 hours later, she is still hanging on. What do we do? I dont have the heart to stick her in the freezer! She isnt giving up!!! HELP!!!

Hi, You could try putting it in an ICU other than that theres not much really much you can do besides just keeping it normally and hopeing it pulls through. If you dont know what an ICU for tarantulas is heres a little video that explanes it, its not the best video but youll get the idea. Goodluck! I hope everything turns out ok.

lol forgot to add the video at first.

That is too bad, warming it up is about all u can do, where did u get them and what is a T? Was the box insulated and was there a heat pack?
A "T" is a tarantula (common shortened nickname by those that keep them). I wondered what in the heck one was too at first, until I started visiting different insect/amphibian/reptile forums and saw the reference repeatedly. ;)

I hope she comes out of it, Tiara. How is she this morning?

Hope all came out well.

I thought I looked here last night but didnt' see any new posts here . Guess I was wrong.

If it came out possitive, what did you do to help?

What do you think caused the problem, or curl?

Why the trinidad and not the others as well ?

Was it split open like it'd been dropped, or the package dropped and ruptured the abdomen?

or did is seem like a temperature thing?

Temps have been odd lately. Freezing other parts of the country, and I'm sitting in front of my open kitchen window, wearing nothing but a... (pump up the volume) :) and it's almost 1 am and it's 76 degrees here, with no heater on.

I just turned the 400watt metal halide on a few minutes ago to give the pinheads I hatched some heat, and the tomatoes some light, but it's down right warm here.

I imagine that someone shipping from souther california may not think of the temp changes across the country if they haven't shipped before, if that's the problem.

I only see my large paysoni cause he's in a shallow container, and my versicolor cause he's hanging in the top of his vial, so i really don't have any experience with these problems, since I rarely see the other two at all.

I got a red rump a couple weeks back, and it's been invisible, built a burrow and disappeared when I put it in a 32 oz deli cup half full of peat moss.

Put a cricket in tonight, and it disappeared into the burrow hole, and haven't seen it since, so either it's eating the T or the T has taken it down.

This is a well read mantis forum, but when I have T questions or need help fast I usually check on arachnoboards. I've had posts go for days with no answers on here. Seems like most just stay up top at the mantis section.

Wish I had the experience to help and I certainly hope all went well.

Sorry for the blathery, but I thought I'd try to ease your mind...

Hey guys. She didnt make it. It did seem like a temp thing tho, because all of them were really slow. They really werent packed well, some of the hairs had rubbed off their bottoms like they were bounced around. I guess she just wasnt as strong as the others. Its a sad thing, we were really rooting for her!!! :(

So sorry :( . I was hopeing she would have pulled through. I know some T's can be very exspensive. I hope the dealer refunded your money or is sending you another one.

The dealer did make good, which we were almost certian he would, but did give us a little bit of trouble. All in all he is a good guy and I wouldnt hesitate to do business with him again. It was just a mistake. Sadly, Pheonix had to pay for it. (LOL I am a sap, I named her hopeing she wouldnt give up)
