Hi all.
Can isopods be fed to to mantises, and do they make for a good, staple diet, when fed in conjunction with healthy crickets, locusts, green/blue bottles and dubai roaches?
My partner and I have 14 mantis currently. Mostly all different species, apart from 2 giant dead leafs.
Alternating between various different food sources and making sure we have some in, but not too many, and not too much waste can be difficult at times, especially invetween availability and delivery times.
We are looking into raising and maintaining our own healthy cultures, but aren't quite ready yet.
However, my daughters terrarium has had a MASSIVE isopod boom.
There is probably around 400-500 at least in there, of varying sizes and types.
Unfortunately we will have to remove and rehome the stag beetles and millipedes they cohabit with, into another terrarium for their livelihood and better living conditions, but we don't need anywhere near that many isopods, and getting rid of them is far more work than simply feeding some to mantises, young tarantulas and some jumping spiders we have.
The question is, are they suitable, and HOW suitable are they?
I understand isopods can eat vulnerable insects, but what if they are fed individually, appropriately sized, and kill confirmed?
