I have, ok.....had, a three legged presub Idolo that was donated for the greater good of photography. Unfortunately, I was half asleep and missed the trigger moment for the awesome tongue shot I was after, so now I am trying to donate my three legged-single raptor subadult Idolo to the greater good of photography. There's not much chance he will molt to adult, let alone live more than a day or two past adult. These pics are in chronological order. I posted the second one to show you the exact setup I had for the first and to show how long his tongue really is and how badly I screwed up the shot. Hopefully, in a day or two I will be posting the shot I was after. Right now, he's not hungry enough to eat the mantis in the bottom pic.

Gorgeous chameleon,I agree, and if you know mantids you can tell its an idolo even in the eating shot,so I think it's still sucessful,I'm sure you wanted that horizontal tongue shot action though

Haha! I do have 3 healthy sub Idolos that my cham won't be allowed near. Until probably at least one mismolts going to adult, that is.
Well now i know where that infected subadult creo male with all 3 left legs missing (mauled off by a female when being shipped to me) who was abt to molt to adult and was laying half dead on a net cage went <_<

Panthers give you pretty good warning when they are about to shoot their tongues, so no sleeping next time! :)

Yes, they do. I meant I was half asleep in the sense of being a moron. :) I didn't want to capture the shot before his tongue hit it and just waited too long. Next time it will be the instant his tongue leaves. I've had him out for the last two hours trying to capture this shot and covered that piece of wood with his favorite food(superworms) and that shot I posted is still the only time he has ever eaten out of a cage, so I am really kicking myself now.

Good luck!

I have always cringed when seeing pics of chameleons in the wild because mantises seem to be their favorite food - at least the most photographed thing they are eating!
