prob is people spend $4-$500 on them if they come from the source country and most people will sell the nymphs if ever for alot of money as well and I hear caring for these requires more skill and not something for the novice or amatueur hobbiest to attempt to raise!

They dont cost quite that much but they are a more difficult species to keep happy let alone breed. Id say be more prepared than experienced as everyone has to learn by means of trial and error.

People experienced in keeping tropical vivarium systems alive shouldnt have too many issues with most any mantid. Its all about environmental parameters and the proper food source. I wouldnt mind taking that gamble if it helps get species established. All it takes is a few people who have success to generate some good care sheets, then success should be achieved by a lot more people

That is a fairly naive statement. You have obviously never breed a mantid before and or hatched an ooth.

I have bred several species now and hatched even more from purchased ooths. Ive also bred scorpions, tarantulas, centipedes, dart frogs, snakes, lizards and turtles. NO BIG TRICKS MAN!!! environmental paramaters and a well rounded appropriate food source combined with incubation temps in the proper range combined with humidity'

FrogParty is dead on, taking a mantis and tossing it in a mesh cage with paper towells is about the bare minimal you can do....now we all know that each persons limitations are a factor but dont think for a second this hobby is any more advanced than the other one he and I are a part of. There are proven benefits to a live ecosystem inside a vivarium not to mention it makes for a much more visually asthetic setup. Experience is very much over rated and used as an excuse on why someone shouldn't keep this, breed that its all in the work you do before you get the bug. The gurus of this hobby didnt get it right the first time no two situations are alike and we all learn as we go. Let us know when you take on critter that will literally fall over and seize up for something as little moving them from one container to another....that doesnt wreck your day like losing a mantid, it means losing $900 dart frog and having to co.pletely sterilize and rebuild the vivs. mantids benefit from a living viv give it a try.
