Combination the two different fruit flies?

Melanogaster fruit flies and Hydei fruit flies.

Would these guys be okay to be together in a culture? Will they breed without problems or ...?

I was wondering if people ever put them in a culture..?

Just a thought. (No I never did that before either thought of doing it.)

The Melanogaster would probably out compete the slow to breed hydei.

i tried this once, they both grew but it was hard to separate the 2 back out <_<

I'm not sure why you'd want to do this. If you have small nymphs that need Mels, you'll get both when you dump them out. And when you are trying to feed larger nymphs, you'll end up dumping Mels in with Hydei.

There were some accidental melanos in my hydei culture and the melanos did out compete the hydei, but the older the culture got, the hydei took control again...so yeah.

People do this a lot. Melanos breed faster, but later on you get more hydei. Better to just have seperate cultures
