There are so many bad things you can pick up while surfing the net(virus, tracking cookies, back door nasties, etc.) I thought I'd share some of the free programs I use to help stop the treachery, majorgeeks is a great place to find many helpful programs, here's 2 that I've been using for years now that work great, you'll need to download the updated files and update the every so often, with spybot you should click immunize to shut down many open ports in windows to help stop back door infiltrations and update it every week(clicking immunize again with every new update), plus it's a great anti-virus scanner. I don't take responsibility for you getting any program set up, so please read carefully to make sure you understand how to get any program up and running the way you want.

Spybot search and destroy: great for stopping things from getting in your puter in the 1st place(immunize feature), plus a very good malware scanner!
