I am waiting on a Congo green mantis ootheca I purchased. I can't find much info on them and whatever info I find is usually an arguement as to whether they are "real" or not. Any info would be super.

Let me state that I don't have a stand whether they are real or not, I just know that I ordered an ootheca for Congo green mantis. I am new and need to learn.

I'd appreciate whatever I can find out. Thanks...Scott

These are the photos from the listing that the ootheca was purchased. I am waiting for it to arrive presently.

Congo green mantis is just a common name, so there are many species of mantis in Congo we could use that name for. From the photo it looks like Sphdromantis sp.

Not sure what species is shown in your photos. But they do look much like the Alalomantis sp I got from Frey a while back. Thought there was not such a size difference between the sexes. But the blue spot and small teeth along the thorax are the same. Alalomantis sp are from the same general area of Africa.

In the UK Congo Green is the common name for IGM 164 Sphodromantis cf. aurea, this was originally misnamed 'Alalomantis coxalis'. It is quite common in culture in the UK.
