So last night I tried to pair up my C. pictipennis. I gave the female a moth to eat and while she was eating I introduced the male behind her. He took notice of her and was moving very slowly. The female is a very skittish mantis, probably the most skittish one I have ever had. The male waited until she was done eating to make his move… stupid choice. He jumped on her back and she immediately turned around and grabbed him. She had a very good grip and was going to eat him but luckily I was there and got her to let go before she did any harm.

Today I went and got some crickets and was planning on mating them again. I picked out a nice plump one to feed to her and distract her while the male made his move again. This time he was able to successfully jump on her back. He had some difficulties locating where he was suppose to connect but he got there eventually lol. They have been connected for an hour now and I am keeping a close eye on them.

Some pics...

Well I like to give mine the whole bug room to roam around in and mate so that the male has a chance to escape. This is how I have always done it without any problems...BUT last night they seperated while I was out playing basketball and now I can't find the female lol. It's been over 12 hours and still no sign of her and I', starting to get a little worried. I'm sure hope she turns up soon lol.
