Crickets vs locusts vs roaches

OK so i hated crickets on like everything...:

they stink,

they make noises and are very annoying when escaped.

Roaches:

i mainly had trouble catching them

Overal pretty good.

I fed locust only a few times,

but it was very good.

no problems on them.

Which do you people prefer?

Roaches for sure, I feel the same about crickets they are really nasty, exspecialy when you got like 1000 or more.

I do crickets because I am not allowed to keep roaches in the house at the request of my wife. I never noticed my crickets smelling. Keep the enclosure clean and that won't be an issue. I knew a guy who kept roaches and those things stunk.

Roaches start to smell if kept in a container with their poop more than 1 inch off the floor. Some people smell it more than others.

I'd rather have roaches. But don't...I don't keep any of the 3 above, I tried to keep crickets, but couldn't take the chirping and fed them off as soon as possible, I didn't have any problem with the smell and they were really easy to raise...they just are disgusting. So I want roaches now...

If one is keeping the larger species of mantids, what are the best species of roaches to use?

What are the best sources here in the USA?

I've kept both roaches and crix.

Crickets:

Stink a LOT

wont shut up! :lol:

are active and are attractive to mantids

IMO high maintenance (keeping the clean mainly)

Roaches:

Hardly smell at all

peace and quiet lol

are somewhat active, but the mantids still love them!

reproduce like mad B)

low maintenance

I'll throw in a few more,

Blue bottle flies:

very attractive to mantids (one of the few things my gongys will eat)

almost quiet

cant breed them so I have to always buy them

Wax worms:

VERY nutritious

most mantids will eat the worms

my gongys LOVE them in their moth form

fairly attractive to most mantids

can be bred (working on that now)

Over all, my favs are roaches and blue bottles, but I rarely use any of them during the summer months, I usually catch all the food my mantids need then. B)
