Crossbreeding

Just was wondering...will mantids in the wild or in captivity crossbreed? ie- will a chinese female breed with a male shield, etc?? I have no intention of trying it..but just wondered if it occured..Thanks

Yes they can/will but it isn't going to result in any viable offspring unless the two are closely related and even then the offspring may be sterile. Please do a search on the topic as it has been discussed many many times. Thanks.
