mine in the greenhouse hide during the day when it is really hot and then in the evening they come out and I can get a head count
Wow, really? I couldn't possibly keep track of mine even if my little garden was enclosed.

 
You might be surprised at the amount of cooling plants provide. The plants tend to keep a relatively constant temperature. With their transpiration temperatures can be 20 to 30F or more degrees cooler in the underbrush. To a bug the plants are like a giant shady cool forest.
