Doratogonus stephensi

I was sent 2 males and 2 females of this species. My son calls them "pale legs". A very good species for those who like to handle millipedes! At least 2 specimens were always to be seen on the surface. They are very fast and don't seem to be upset by being handled.

They mated quite often. 



They run about 6 inches long. Just wish they were a bit thicker.



Generally glossy black overall so the "pale legs" really stand out.



Not at all disturbed by being picked up.

Unfortunately, I only have a single female left. I have seen over 50 eggs, but have not seen babies yet.

Was feeding this morning and decided to root through the substrate. I found this little guy! So hope springs some more!

Was adding to the substrate and found 4 more babies! That gives me a total of 5 babies seen so far.

Why do you wish they were thicker?

I show my bugs and other invert critters at several schools every year. The bigger and more visually impressive the species, the more interest by the kids. This species is a good length but needs a little more "bulk" to truly be impressive.
