The other day my sister runs up to me telling me that she found a stick insect. I took a closer look at what she had found, and realized that it had raptorial arms like a mantis, but was definitely not one. After further research, I found out that it is a thread-legged assassin bug. It is a pretty neat insect, and is cool to watch. I was wondering, does anyone have experience with this insect? How do I care for it? It looks like this picture that I found online:

if it has raptorial arms, think it eats insects. Did you try to feed it.

Think it's needs a home like a normal assasin bug?

Any luck getting it to eat? Did you try flies or small moths?

It will glue eggs individually to the sides or top of the container. They hatch out after about a month and are so small and long their bodies and legs look like they're made of human hair.

It is not an adult, as it molted already. It is about an inch long. What should I feed it?

Unfortunately, there’s surprisingly very little amount of information available online. However, it seems that it is a predatory insect, so I would try to feed it the same things that you would feed a mantis of a similar size.

Wikipedia also says that they steal captured bugs from spider webs and sometimes eat the actual spider. If you wanted to replicate this behavior, I think you would need to catch a spider from a web outside, and leave it in it’s own container for a day or two to build a new web. Feed the spider a couple bugs, and place the Emesaya inside with the spider to steal the food and eat the spider.

Good luck with the little guy! They are a beautiful species.

Ok. I will try that. I did feed it some ff, but it never ate them.

It died because I couldn't get t to eat anything. Oh well!

Sorry for your loss, @MantisGirl13. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to be the of the first people to try raising a relatively undocumented species, especially when it comes to bugs. It’s a shame we can take our insects to the vet!
