What are the odds of a mantis turning up if they vanish inside of a house? I have had this happen 5 times in the last 5 years and 4 of them came back. (The most recent one to return actually reappeared within a foot of her cage. Why, I don't know. She's always trying to escape.) The fifth vanished on July 29th this year and I still haven't seen her. She is a 3/4 inch long yellow European mantis who has the bad luck of blending in with every surface in our house. On a related note, is there any reliable way to set a trap for a mantis who isn't a mature male? If Chell (the mantis) were a cat, I know I'd be trying to lure her in with tuna, so I was wondering. . .

Look on higher surfaces and walls/ceilings. They won't hide in crevices.

I suggest looking on plants and by windows.  As mentioned, normally high up.

Good Luck!
