I was wondering if you can safely feed spiders to your mantids. Of course a large spider and a small mantis is asking for problems, but aside from that, are there any drawbacks?

I use them as food. For very large mantids those big garden spiders make a fine meal.

I use them too and they are fine food. One draw back i've noticed even with small spiders is to make sure your mantid catches it in your veiw as i have lost a couple to even small spiders by just plonking them in and leaving them to their own devises. Spiders are exeptional predators in there own right and ifnot eaten straight away and left to build a web they can turn the tables in their favour. :)

What i do is i make the spider very panicked. When its very panicked, it doesn't care about eating. Just runs a lot. When it is running, my mantid spots it and also runs after it.
