So I have 3 ghost mantids and 1 of them, a female, is behaving quite strange the last 2 days. She looks like she's drunk, walking around in a weird way other than usual and sometimes she's hitting the ground with her head. I noticed she's holding like 1 of her arms close to her body like it's glued to it, it's not misshapen due to a molt because I have seen her move it. She tries to walk around with it because her foot is moving but it's like she can't control the arm at times... I've also noticed there is a small black dot on the back of her head, at first I thought it could be a parasite but it's not, I don't see any legs or anything... I'm quite concerned that she won't make it because the other 2 are acting completely normal.

If you know what is causing what she is doing now or have an explanation of some kind, plz let me know even if it's normal behavior, these are my first mantids so I don't know everything about them yet

Sorry, I cannot really offer any answers for you. Unfortunately, the only time I had a Mantis act that way, it ended up passing away a few days later. :(  I really hope this is not the case with yours. Can anyone provide any insight into this issue?

hm well I'll make sure to observe her behavior to know exactly what the symptoms are so if she dies I can provide help to anyone else :)

I've had a Chinese that I took out for a small walk and I noticed he was acting drunk (dragging his legs, almost falling off my arm), so I hurriedly placed him back and found out he was ready to molt right away. Can't say he had a black dot at the back of his head though. Much luck to you, hope she recovers soon!

looks like she's better now, don't really know what got into her, I also noticed that she doesn't hold her arms together like other mantids, but there's like 3-4 mm between them she's like spreading her arms all the time which is kinda weird :p

That happened to one of my Hierodula Xishaensis. She was leaning this way and. I looked under her wings and saw black! It was a mold infection of some kind! I put her in the freezer as she was really suffering.

Try checking her over closely.
