Woo hoo! Got a little baby rose hair today. Super tiny. Wanted to raise one as a sling. Very adorable! Any advice? Does and don'ts?

i recently just got a few slings that size and a little larger. i keep my smallest sling in a deli cup around a 16oz ( i don't know the exact size). its probably to much room for him but it wont hurt. i feed mine once a week. i haven't been able to get him to eat a live pinhead cricket. i have just been killing the cricket and putting it in and he takes it. you can try that if yours doesn't want to eat a live one. i don't have a rose hair but i know they need low humidity and they dont really climb or burrow. just give them something to hide under and they are good! i wouldn't recommend holding a sling that young since they are so delicate but thats your call if you want to! good luck with your new sling they are loads of fun to keep and collect.. not to mention to see the amazing things they are capable of doing! you should post a photo after each molt!

Well... I learned a valuable lesson, three actually:

1- pet store experts suck

2- don't keep slings in critter keepers

3- you won't find a sling that small that has escaped said critter keeper.

I went back to the store and talked to the manager (personal friend) she explained that the person working that day isn't familiar with tarantulas. She offered me a free sling and a deli cup enclosure. There was one more sling left so I picked him up as well. So... I have two slings and one rolling around the house somewhere lol

In three years when you're moving some boxes out of the basement you'll find a full size rose hair eating a mouse or something >.>

I can't even imagine losing a sling like that. I'd be terrified.

I imagine you will be checking beds and closets every night for a while lol.

Lol nah, I talked with mike he said it will either die or my dog will eat it. Lol but I have been thinking it would be funny as heck to have someone over and a tarantula suddenly peek up from behind the couch to say hi or something lol

Did he tell you about the free-range Indian Ornamental at his old house in ATL?

the critter keepers suck i have 2 bigger slings in them but never a small one. i have a 7 inch centipede that escaped twice from 2 different critter keepers. the first time i caught him in the act. but the second time i came home turned my bedroom light on and there it is just chillin on my bedroom floor. i scooped him up immediately and taped up all the cracks. i got sooooo lucky....

When I was young, my grandma lived with us and let my mexican orange knee out of it's enclosure. Was missing for about a week, but it was found when my grandmas sheets were going from the washer to the drier. Needless to say, it didn't survive the final spin, but only lost one leg. Amazing. lol
