I posted this on reddit too but I am trying anything and everything I can to identify it. If you can even narrow down the search just a little that would be great. It was found in SC on a signpost. Approx 3/4 in long and there were 3 separate sacs on the post. I guess this is what happens when you are looking for ooths, you find a whole bunch of other stuff instead.

Yea I was thinking some kind of spider, but these may be a bit too large for grass spider egg sacs. I mistook these for ooths from a couple yards away because of their size.

Though now that you say moth cocoon, I can definitely see the fuzziness being part of that.

They are cocoons, I know that 100%. We have these everywhere in Ontario, Canada as well. You may want to actually remove the silk to check if the pupae is actually intact before you set them up for anything. Often times, spiders suck them dry and you can't tell the difference ;) , or they have already emerged.

Looks interesting. This is the type of place where a mantis would lay an ooth. You should see some of the crevices that I found some of my ooths in. It's like the walked in backwards just to lay them in there.

usually that's what parasitic wasps do
