Went to the reptile show yesterday and got a big bag for $5! Also, my FF's are finally becoming adults! Sure takes LONG! I should probably start another batch now!

My melanogaster culture has maggots now! That was quick!

Still waiting on my hydei maggots!

I see some skinny hydei and some very very fat ones in there! Somebody must be about to lay something so I think it will be successful too!

My hydei has taken off! I haven't fed out of it for about a week and a half though. It took that long to get some hatchers!

Oooh scratch that I see the Hydei maggots! They are just getting started. All I See is little black dots where there mouth is in the medium moving around lol.

I read somewhere Hydei take longer than others.

So happy I can culture my own flies now!

I think my current melanogaster are the turkish glider type.. they do glide quite a bit!

I got them from the frog guy who cultures his own as well.

That confirms yeast is not necessary either!

I think the basic is fermenting potato flakes. Doesn't matter how you do it. Alcohol or vinegar etc etc
