I just looked at my culture and noticed that there are tiny larvae in and around the medium. I guess I didn't wait long enough to judge the success. This is basically my first time breeding fruit flies and so I assumed that D. melanogaster bred and grew quicker than I thought. It's good to know that the culture is going successfully! :D

Also.. I have tiny little black things crawling through my culture medium.. Like super tiny. And I made the medium myself, this is the second generation as well. Any idea?
Sounds like mites, and that is real bad, throw everything out and start again. Mites is really a big fly culture killer

Grain mites have no black coloration. The closest thing I can think of that can be mite-sized and black would be black globose springtails.
