So, I live in a wooded area in the northwest, and have always found these beetle wings all over the place (bat food) that look like sunflower seed shells, and sometimes the heads of these guys on my back porch. The males of the species have what look like little wooden satellite dishes for antenae. I've always looked out for the actual beetle that these wings came from but still, to this day have never seen a live one. My oldest daughter and I went out looking for them after dark a few times this last summer with flashlights, but we didn't find any  . But then she came home from school about a week ago with one that her friend had found on their playground at school! It was dead, and female, but still cool, so I took a couple of pictures anyway :D

We have some similar species but not any with the lines on their backs.

Yeah, those beetles are common around where I live. They make these strange sounds when you touch them. I usually find them at my front yard or back yard light at night.

Hey! Ten lined June Beetles. I find them every once and a while here on Mercer Island. I believe they are the biggest beetles in Western Washington.

Cool beetle! I get the Grapevine beetles here. They are a little less fuzzy but may be slightly larger. Their feet are like hooks and get stuck in our skin when we handle them.

They are abundant here too, but aren't very easy to find. At least not for me <_< . They are pretty cool though.
