Garden Caught Mantis ID

sorry i'm a bit of a noob. i was gardening and i found this guy. Thought it was a Chinese at first since thats what we have common here in my neighborhood, but when i took it in and compared it with the mantids i had. looked nothing like em

My guess would be S. limbata but it could be S. californica.

Deffo limbata californica have dots inside claws and lines on top of abdomen

after googling images from youre suggestion, it sure does look like it can be either a Limbata or Californica. those two look so close not sure how people can tell them apart! HAHA

Californica have spots inside the claws dark bands on the abdomen which yours lacks and limbata r bigger

why do these two species have to look so alike? do you know what instar my californica will turn green? She's L3 right now and a light tan color.

Well limbatas apparently turn green when adult. Mine are still nymphs. It looks just like my presub male though!

oh thats a fun fact to know! i'll make sure to take photos of him after each molt to see its progress

i'm fallin in love with this guy. i took more photos. its personality is different compared to the Chinese ones i have.

Not sure if its cause he's new, but this one seems to be more curious of his surrounds more and sway walks more in comparison to my Chinese which usually just like to dart out and run anywhere they get the chance lol

When I was taking photos of this guy he looks at the lens and jumps to it lol
