General Novice questions

Hi,I am new to Mantid keeping and have a few general questions if anyone can help.

I have two very young small New Zealand Mantids, one is a bit bigger than the other, I have had them for about a week now.

The smaller one has developed a black tip, is this normal? Also what is the best food for them, how often do I feed them and is there anything specific i need to know? Thanks in advance.

Welcome, They will eat house flies and very small(pinhead)crickets, 1 or 2 every other day each nymph. or fruit flies but they will need many more of those per day at L2-3 like yours look.

Black tip? not sure do you have a closer pic.

WElcome! Where is black tip? Not normal. Mist them daily and feed daily with ffs or pinheads!

Welcome. Not sure what you mean by black tip since you weren't more specific. At that size they may still be able to eat hydei fruit. Or you can try houseflies and then when they grow more go to blue bottle flies. You can also feed them small roaches or crickets when they get a little bigger. I feed every other day. You want to keep their abdomens plump.

Thanks for the replies peeps, just to update that both my Mantids have now shed their skins over the last day, hopefully this means that they are eating well and growing, they certainly look much bigger now.

Something I am still unsure of is that my small Mantis does not look big enough to eat house flies so can i feed it ants until it grows big enough?

Will try to post new pics, the black tip has thankfully gone now with the last shed
