When he was but a wee L3, yes, I used a bottle cap, but I only had it filled to the inside ring, not the top of the outside ring (does that make sense? so it had about 2mm of water, not 10mm.Was that bottle cap full of water? If so, it could be dangerous to your little guy! Bugs are not always smart about water. You might find him drowned!
A boy?!?! I am counting 6, but I have also never done this before!I would say you have a boy on your hands. Seems you have named him appropriately!
Females are only supposed to have 5.......see image below:A boy?!?! I am counting 6, but I have also never done this before!
Goodness gracious. I was reading stuff that said it was 6 for females and 8 for males.
Hahaha....awesome! I totally support that!Goodness gracious. I was reading stuff that said it was 6 for females and 8 for males.
Yay! I have a boy! I wanted him to be a boy! If it starts laying ooths, I'll decorate his enclosure with rainbows and let him be trans.
Very good! And smart for the humidity! When he was but a wee L3, yes, I used a bottle cap, but I only had it filled to the inside ring, not the top of the outside ring (does that make sense? so it had about 2mm of water, not 10mm.
Now, he is a lovely L5, and I have a very shallow (maybe 1/4" dish depth) reptile dish that I fill with aquarium gravel then add water to. It helps the enclosure stay humid. And I was thinking the big pile of rocks prevent him from drowning unless he wants to lift a bunch of rocks out of the way. Do you think that's safe? Don't want to hurt the lass.
How did everything go??I woke up to George still attached by the tip of his abdomen to his exoskeleton. L5 or L6, I think? I'll have to examine him more closely tomorrow. For now, I am letting him harden. Should I mist?

It is 6 for females and 8 for males. For some reason the person that numbered the segments in the photos decided not to number the 1st segment in-between where the legs end and where the 2nd one (the segment they have listed as 1) is.Goodness gracious. I was reading stuff that said it was 6 for females and 8 for males.

Yes, it's true. Depends on where you start counting the segments, and different sources start counting at different segments. It is 6 for females and 8 for males. For some reason the person that numbered the segments in the photos decided not to number the 1st segment in-between where the legs end and where the 2nd one (the segment they have listed as 1) is.
He was devouring a smallish cricket yesterday as I left for work, and another one this morning. I am cleaning out his enclosure tonight, so I will try to get some pictures (he's a reddish brown now). I love him, but he makes out-of-enclosure photos really hard because he likes to run up my arm when I handle him. And he is a fast runner! How did everything go??
