Can you tell if my ghost mantis is a male or female?

That's a female. Phyllocrania paradoxa females have wider protuberance on their head than males. If you counted the abdominal sternites, or the segments on the underside, the females have six and the males have eight. Females have fewer because the segments fuse to form the parts of the ovipositor.

@Ratmosphere Well obviously you read about the Ghost's "crown" being used to determine gender, but are unsure what it is. While the method can be successful, I have seen experienced keepers arguing about the gender on some Ghost photos in previous posts (it isn't always 100% and some can be difficult to determine). Other such gender ID tricks with various success are viewing the thorax shield width, the antenna width, over all body size, wing length, and more.

The real way to tell is counting the abdomen segments, same with all other mantids.

The "crown" though is very wide, and without bends, which suggests the Ghost in the photo is female. ;)

I love that picture! Another thing I have read is that only female ghosts can get that green coloring, so if you have a green ghost, that is one way to tell.
